Selling on eBay from Türkiye: account, fees, rules and the first product

Policies2 min read

What you need to sell on eBay US from Türkiye: the account and the store, the fees eBay takes, the rules to follow (drop shipping, VeRO, shipping) and choosing your first product from the record.

Short answer: yes, you can sell on eBay from Türkiye. eBay's local Turkish marketplace closed in 2022; sellers in Türkiye now sell on eBay's international sites, on ebay.com for buyers in the US. This post goes through what to know before the first sale, in order.

1. The account and the store

  • Open an eBay account; if you'll sell regularly, a business account fits better.
  • Before you can sell, eBay verifies your identity or business details and the method your payouts go to; these steps happen on eBay's own screens.
  • A store (eBay Store) isn't required. A store subscription adds free listings each month and lowers the final value fee in some categories; the plans and their prices are on eBay's store page.

2. The fees eBay takes

On eBay US, most categories pay 13.6% of the sale plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 on orders of $10 or less). The fee is taken on the total: item price, shipping and the sales tax the buyer pays. A seller registered in Türkiye also pays eBay's international fee on sales to buyers in the US; its rate is on eBay's fee page. If you use Promoted Listings, the ad rate comes on top.

To see what you keep from a sale before you list, use the fee calculator; for the details, see the eBay fees post.

3. The rules to follow

  • Drop shipping: eBay doesn't let you buy an item from another retailer or marketplace and have it shipped straight to your buyer; it must ship from your own stock or an authorized wholesale supplier. Details: drop shipping on eBay.
  • Protected brands: a rights owner can have a listing removed through eBay's VeRO program, and repeated removals restrict the account. Details: eBay VeRO.
  • Shipping and tracking: a buyer in the US expects a tracking number. Choose a realistic handling time and upload tracking on time; late shipments and missing tracking lower your seller level (seller levels).
  • Sales tax: eBay collects and remits the sales tax of buyers in the US. For your obligations in Türkiye, talk to an accountant.

4. Choosing the first product from the record

Find what sells from eBay's sold listings, not a guess: products that sold steadily in the last 90 days, with a sell-through rate worth the competition, that leave you something after fees and cost. How to do it is in finding what sells on eBay. SellerLibrary's store research puts a competing store's real sales and their history on one screen.

5. Opening the listing right

  • An 80-character title: the words buyers search for, in the order they search (title post).
  • Item specifics: brand, model, size and the like are how a listing shows in filters (item specifics).
  • Photos, price and return policy as a US buyer expects; price from the middle of the sold listings.
