What the SellerLibrary Chrome extension reads, and what it never does

SellerLibrary3 min read

The extension works only in jobs you start and on the buttons you press. Here's plainly what it reads, what it never reads, what Benzerini bul does and what each permission is for.

To read an entire store, SellerLibrary uses a Chrome extension. Giving a browser extension permission takes trust, so here, one by one, is what the extension does and doesn't do.

What it reads

  • In a store analysis you start, the listings: product name, price, images, item specifics, seller name, units sold, shipping and stock.
  • The Amazon price, stock and images of a product you choose.
  • For research, orders and tracking, only on www.ebay.com, www.amazon.com and sellerlibrary.com.
  • For Benzerini bul, on a product page you open, only the product's name, price and picture; on a page that is not a product page, nothing.

What it never reads or does

  • It doesn't read your browsing history, passwords or cookies.
  • It doesn't order, list or send messages on your behalf.
  • It never tries to get around verification screens; it stops when it sees one.
  • It doesn't sell your data or use it for advertising.

What each permission is for

  • storage: keeps the device key given during pairing, the state of a running scan, your settings and the history of your recent searches in your browser, so a scan that stops can pick up where it left off. The history is never sent anywhere.
  • alarms: while a scan runs, asks for the next job at regular intervals; when eBay asks it to slow down, it tries again after a while.
  • tabs: opens eBay and Amazon pages in a background tab for a scan you started, and closes them when the job is done.
  • webRequest: only checks whether the pages it opened loaded and whether eBay is applying a rate limit; it doesn't record your browsing history.
  • contextMenus: adds "Analyze this store with SellerLibrary" to the right-click menu on eBay pages, and "Search by image with SellerLibrary" to the right-click menu of pictures.
  • tabGroups: gathers the tabs a scan opens into one collapsed group called "SellerLibrary"; it never touches your own tabs.
  • declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess: adds the page details Amazon expects to Benzerini bul's own picture search request to Amazon; it never touches the requests of the pages you browse.
  • All sites: so the Benzerini bul toolbar can appear on product pages; on a page that is not a product page, nothing is read.

Benzerini bul

When you press Benzerini bul in the toolbar under an eBay listing's title, the product picture goes from your browser to Amazon's picture search; it does not go to SellerLibrary, and the results appear only on your screen. A product you add to Adaylar is added to your workspace. Anonymous counts of how often the buttons were used go only to SellerLibrary; you can turn the toolbar and the counts off in the extension's Settings.

Installing and connecting

You install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, and Chrome keeps it updated by itself. To connect it to your account, get a one-time code in SellerLibrary under Settings → Chrome extension and paste it into the extension. You never type a password into the extension, and you can remove the connection from the same place at any time.

The details of every permission are on the extension page, and how data is handled is in the privacy policy.
